Walter Elias "Walt" Disney was a pioneer of the American animation industry. He is responsible for various developments in the production of cartoons.
Here are some inspirational facts about him:
He left school to join the army when he was 16.
He could not join, though, for being underage. But did find a job driving an ambulance for the Red Cross in France.
Everyone thought that a feature-length animated movie would fail, but Disney was determined to do it.
When industry insiders knew about the idea of Disney of turning Snow White into a feature film, they thought he was crazy. Actually Disney had to ask additional financing to loan officers and show them part of the movie. We know what happened at the end, Snow White was a smashing success and earned over $80 million in its release.
Walt Disney has received more Academy Awards and nominations than any other person.
Disney won 22 Academy Awards and was nominated 59 times. They are actually three awards created specifically for him:
- For creating Mickey Mouse
- To recognize his contribution of music in the field of animation
- A specially made prize honoring Snow White and the Seven Dwarves.
He was the original voice behind Mickey Mouse.
Mickey’s voice from 1928 to 1947 was made by Walt Disney himself. After that it was turned over to Jimmy MacDonald.
