Leonardo Da Vinci and is considered one of the greatest painters of all time. Though his interests included invention, painting, sculpting, architecture, science,music, mathematics, engineering, literature, anatomy, geology, astronomy, botany, writing, history, poetry, and cartography.
Here are some of his more inspiring and fascinating facts:
He was "illegitimate."
Leonardo was the son of Caterina, a peasant, and Ser Piero, a lawyer and landlord.
He was unschooled.
Leonardo Da Vinci lacked a formal education though he was homeschooled. He was sent as an apprentice for Andrea del Verrocchio, a Florentine painter, until he was a teenager.
Many of his works are unfinished.
Da Vinci was a slow painter. And he left unfinished not only his paintings but a lot of his inventions. He designed an armored car, a scythed chariot, a revolving crane, a flying ship, among others.
Leonardo Da Vinci was the first to explain why the sky is blue.
It's because of the way that the air scatters light from the sun.
Da Vinci was an ambidextrous, paranoid dyslexic.
He could draw forward with one hand while writing backward with the other, producing a mirror-image script.
