We’ve all been there. The end of a year comes and we ‘promise’ a bunch of stuff we eventually forget in January. So, how can we make our New Year’s Resolutions work and how can we prevent ourselves to go through another year of unresolved promises? Every New Year is a brand new opportunity to achieve our goals and dreams, so here are some tips on how to achieve your New Year's resolutions.  

Make it something you really want, don’t do it for others. Your New Year’s Resolutions need to be yours and only yours. If you achieve them, there will be some side effects (most likely positive ones), so, forget about pleasing everybody else. This year, please yourself.


Make real resolutions, things you know you can do. There’s no need to go big. Maybe there are many things you need and want to do, but you won’t be able to handle everything at the same time. Go step by step. Go slowly. Make BIG changes, with little things.


Limit yourself, don’t try to promise 10,000 things. Pick a number and focus only in keeping that short list.


Try to be specific. This will help you focus on what’s really important and you won’t get lost in the process.


Make a plan. This is really important. You can promise a lot of things, but if you don’t have a plan, you’ll probably end up dropping everything. Take your time to make a list. Think about what’s more urgent and important and start with that. Think about how you can make it happen and the possible scenarios. Be prepared for anything, have an action plan… and make it happen!


So, there you have it: do it for yourself, limit your list to a number you can handle, be realistic, be specific and make a plan. Don’t forget that staying positive and focusing on your goals will help you get going.
